Part 1  /  Articles  (a / an / the / —)

Use a (or an before vowel sounds) for singular countable nouns in general, or when mentioned for the first time. Use the when both people know which specific thing is meant. Write (a dash) if no article is needed. Don't forget: a few, a higher level, the mountains, the European Union.

Exercise A — Fill in the gap

Write a, an, the, or — (dash) in each gap.

Part 2  /  Verb Forms: Gerund (-ing) or Infinitive (to …)

After certain verbs, use the gerund (-ing): enjoy, imagine, suggest, can't help.
After others, use the infinitive (to + verb): want, decide, hope, need, plan.
Some verbs take either form: love, like, start, begin, continue.
Never use the base verb alone: I love play ✗ → I love playing

Exercise A — Fill in the gap

Write the correct form of the verb in brackets. Where both forms are possible, either is accepted.

1. I love basketball on weekends.
2. She needs to start more English at work.

Also, in normal statements, adjectives and adverbs do not go before the subject.

Others require a specific preposition:
take care of (not "about"),  at the beginning / at the end (not "on").

Part 5  /  "One of the …" + plural noun
